Sheet Music: ScoreBrunswick St : from 'The Melbourne Suite' / Callum Watson.by Callum Watson (2021)

Product details
Brunswick St is an inner north Melbourne St with a rather long history. Shops appeared on the street as early as 1840 initially rivalling Burke Street for shopping. However for many decades the street and Fitzroy more generally was characterised by second hand cheap shops and low rent. This changed from the 1970 with the area attracting students and artists in particular precipitating the gentrification of Brunswick St with cafes, live music venues and fashion shops moving onto the street making it a rather rich area both culturally and economically. Thus, this is the ultimate Melbourne 'rags to riches' story. Musically I have presented this by contrasting a Scott Joplin style rag with a slightly jazzy theme - perhaps embodying the 'sound' of gentrification in a cinematic sense.
