Product details
I make it no secret that my music is primarily influenced by Latin American folk, indigenous and popular music traditions. That a multitude of songs in these traditions treat the wondrous theme of love from a myriad of different perspectives is no surprise given the universality and complexity of this facet of human existence. The tango is often described as "a torrid love affair of 3 minutes"; it is difficult to walk past a couple dancing salsa and cha-cha and ignore the various suggestive signals and symbols imbedded at the core of the bodily gestures of these dances; there are culturally significant Peruvian indigenous festivals which celebrate the fertility of Pachamama (the Andean goddess Mother Earth) and plead to her and Taita Wamani (Father Mountain) for a successful harvest and graze in the months to come. These musico-dance traditions are represented in Danzas Amorosas and fused with contrapuntal and homophonic textures throughout this work, just as life and love are inexorably fused in movement. The "music of the people" is, in fact, a "voice of the people," and by extension, Danzas Amorosas is a "voice" for this music in the context of the concert hall.
