Product details
"Anything but a frothy opener, this is a substantial piece..... the orchestra relished the rich orchestration."
Excerpt from premiere performance review: "Special Piece Brings out Best in Orchestra" by Peter Donnelly, The Mercury 13/09/2011.
The Derwent Overture is a fantasy, it has no specific program but seeks to paint a trajectory through a series of varied dramatic episodes expanding finally into an optimistic and warm final section, setting the scene for a new adventure full of hope.
The overture is titled in honour of both the orchestra that premieried it and the region of Tasmania where I grew up.
