The work is about the situation of the Darling River (Barka), Australia's longest river, and the apparent intent of big business and government to syphon it off for a few, and hence to kill it downstream for others. A rather bizarre and terrible situation at the time of composing in 2018! Some detail on this is inherent in the description of each movement, outlined in the preface notes to the score.
The work explores various registers of the instrument, various articulations and other technical possibilities.
Can be performed as separate pieces.
