Product details

"Echoes. . . . " is a further development of a piece called "Echoes from an Antique Land".

There is a strong feeling of line in each of the parts. The rhythm is fluid, with "bundles" of notes expanding and contracting at different rates. I was aiming for a line which would sound fluid, and yet have a strong rhythmic impetus; in which the gathering accumulations and dispersions would give a feeling of eddies and currents.

The phrases expand and contract out of particular note centres. Sometimes they return to the same note centre, but mostly they expand and "settle" on a different centre.

There are frequent echoes set up between the instruments and between sections of the piece. Occasionally there are echoes of older music and of archaic cadences. There is also a "shadow" line, echoing the main melodic line of the piece, in an inverted canon.
