Sheet Music: Score
entangled : for trombone and violoncello / Dominik Karski.
by Dominik Karski (2008)
In this work there are two dissimilar elements that find themselves very close to each other, in terms of the behavior of the musical material. On one hand, this type of closeness seems somehow imposed on the two elements, but on the other hand, quite a few similarities are found as they attempt to communicate and interact.
An interesting quality of the work is the manner in which the interactions occur, as it is not simply an exploration, but more a kind of intense search for any sound-qualities that may relate the two sound-worlds. Naturally, this search often fails to arrive at similarities and matching behaviours, and this produces various contexts: sometimes there is a mutual sense of urgency to continue the search, but sometimes the individuality of each instrument takes the upper hand. As a result, the overall direction of the process is unclear, and a sense of entanglement emerges, as the instruments generate numerous sound-qualities to constantly re-discover their relationship.
