A fault line is an extended crack in the Earth's surface. These areas are very prone to earthquakes as rock-mass movements cause displacements. 'Fault Lines' portrays the gradual evolution from small tremors to large, world-shaking quakes.
The encompassing pitch material is derived from four particular harmonic 'fields'; these, when notated vertically, are organised by a sequence of diminishing intervals. The progression of global pitch centres are also organised in this fashion. This is not dissimilar to the structural characteristic of diminishing rhythmic units, the gradual coalescence of rhythms in the opening or the gradual structural compression of particular sections.
The recurring idea of motivic 'displacement' or offsetting represents shifting geological features (however big or small!), and this 'displacement' feature is repeated melodically, in the mid-ground and also to form textures.
