Product details
Four Fleeting Star-Dreams was composed in 2006 as part
of an ongoing composition/performance project with
Japanese-German pianist Yayoi Takano. It was premiered in Germany
in the same year by Takano-san and myself.
In a sense, the shakuhachi and the piano are opposites; the
former is monophonic, but can shape and inflect pitch, timbre and
dynamics in an extremely subtle fashion in the course of each
tone, whereas the latter, while being capable of playing many
tones at once, is limited in the possibilities of inflection of
those tones after they have been struck. Tis piece is my first
composition which explores the meeting points and divergences
between them.
