The origin of these songs is Peace, a cantata for John Monash, a cantata for adult and children's choirs, soloists and orchestra.
Our Little Town celebrates the liberation of
Villers-Bretonneux on April 25, 2018. Villers-Bretonneux is a
small town about 15 km East of Amiens in North-East France, near
the River Somme. It is the site of the Australian War Memorial
and the new John Monash Centre, as well as the French-Australian
museum. Monash did not lead the mission personally but he was
overall in charge of the combined Australian forces. After the
war, Victorian children helped to fundraise for the primary
school 'Victoria School' part of which houses the
French-Australian museum. In the school yard is emblazoned 'Do
not forget Australia'. Some streets have Australian names and
many Australian music groups perform in the hall opposite the
Town Hall.
The Eternal's Face is one of the anthems in the cantata
which advocate peace, as is Do good.
Jerilderie is about a small town in southern NSW where
Monash spent some of his childhood. He claimed to have met Ned
Kelly there.
