This work was commissioned by Erzsi Marosszeky and the Joubert Singers of Hunters Hill as a project to initiate creativity during the COVID 19 lockdowns. In the Forest finally received its first performance by the Joubert Singers in 2022, after the lockdowns in 2020 and 2021. The piano accompaniment cocoons the vocal parts, creating a harmonically rich and varied palette. With the addition of challenging rhythms and long lyrical vocal lines, the music gestures the forest scene in Emilie Zoey Baker's text.
