Originally composed for 2 violins, this work was later developed into its final form for violin and viola. Starting with a simple ostinato drone-like figure, it changes in tempo and feel, moving through rich harmonic changes, before returning, resigned to a further iteration of the opening lyricism.
Initially an idea based upon a simple finger exercise, it was expanded into an almost ambient adagietto.
