In Wild Country was commissioned by the Australian Chamber Orchestra for premiere performance by ACO Collective. Although it constitutes a kind of musical ode to nature, its interpretation is not confined to the kinds of romantic or idyllic emphases often found in art: the first part of the piece is texturally thicketed, passionate, and often bristling with raw, challenging energy. Respite is eventually found through a wistful, atmospheric coda.
