Product details
"Kiddushim" refers to sacred, spiritual and beautiful things, and "Killulim" refers to being harsh and to curses. The verse "Kiddushim ve' Killulim" sanctification and curses is in a sarcastic and bitter nuance and presents a statement of: came to bless but ended up cursing, the opposite of "came to curse but found to be blessing" from Balak. It's about the paradox of those who were conquered by the forces of darkness.
"Kiddushim ve-kilulim", scored for chamber orchestra, consists of 20 parts (musical images) that are played continuously. These parts combine diverse compositional approaches, stemming from contrasting musical traditions: from the East (classical Arabic music and piyyutim) and from the West (European avant-garde), thus connecting the ancient and the new.
Christian Lindberg, a renowned Swedish trombonist/conductor, has commissioned Kiddushim & Killulim (Blessings & Curses) and conducted the work in his tour of 8 concerts with NK Orchestra. The work explores challenging rhythms - with sections of simultaneous various meters and subdivisions, and the integration of Maqamat musical elements with Western practice. With support from AuzCo I was able to join his tour and attend all concerts.
Kiddushim & Killulim (Blessings & Curses) is an Australian orchestral intercultural new music.
