Product details
Letters from Flanders portrays the experiences of my maternal grandfather, Corporal Reginald Littlejohns (4th Australian Machine Gun Battalion) in the First World War. Reginald left Melbourne for Europe in May 1916. He was based on Salisbury Plain for some months, and then served in Flanders through to the end of the war. He returned to Melbourne in April 1919, having sent hundreds of letters home during his service. Some of those letters served as the inspiration to create this piece. They are honest, articulate, and highly descriptive. Each of the piece's five short movements portrays a different aspect of Reginald's war, with a quote from his letters included.
