Product details
Light and Transfiguration is inspired by the scientific law of energy conservation: namely, that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed. The piece charts the journey of energy from its interstellar origins in our explosive sun and into the Earth's web of living bodies. Energy leaves the sun as light which is received by producers (plants). They transfigure the light into sugars which are absorbed by consumers (animals) when eaten. When producers and consumers die, some of their embodied energy flows to decomposers (such as worms) as they break the remains into raw inorganic materials. This process guides the music of Light and Transfiguration.
Light and Transfiguration was first played at the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music, Hobart in a recording session by Michael Kieran Harvey.
