Product details

The Lines in the title refer to melodic lines as a metaphor for the Songlines of Australian Aborigines which they used to navigate their way as they moved through the land. The two melodic instruments play a melodic line or lines which undergo isorhythmic treatment. The harp elaborates and thickens the texture at cadential points. Despite there being plenty of variety, after some time, relief in the form of static prolonged harmonies is heard, much as there would be a need for relief at a watering hole after a walk in the desert. These two types of texture form the basis of the work.

It will be inferred from this, that, as with most of my present compositions, there was no initial planning. The aim rather is to allow arbitrarily chosen elements to become more important, or to combine them as is fitting in the final section of this piece.

Published by: Australian Music Centre — 1 set of 3 performance parts (27p. -- A4 (portrait))

Difficulty: Advanced — Requires precise coordination and the harp part is probably challenging at times.

Duration: 8 min.

The harp part is a copy of the full score.
