Product details

Published by: Australian Music Centre — 1 facsimile score (2p. -- B4 (portrait))

Duration: 7 mins

Composed in Bodh Gaya, India.

"Reading through the poem Stufen ("Stages"), which originates from Hesse's novel Das Glasperlenspiel ("The Glass Bead Game"), Franklin decided to write a piece for shakuhachi solo in an attempt to reflect the sentiments of the poem and the spirit of the place. The resulting piece is based around the forms and techniques of the Honyoku, the "original pieces" for shakuhachi composed as meditations by Japanese Zen Buddhist monks, but employs a much more chromatic melodic idiom".

This is a handwritten edition — it is not typeset.
