The inspiration for this work came as the result of studying the erhu and playing this beautiful instrument in the Sias International University Chinese Traditional Orchestra. Although the melodic material of this work is partially sourced from my previous works, Redemption for viola and string orchestra and Roses for flute, bass flute and percussion, its harmonies and ornamentation are inspired by the music of the Xinjiang Province in China.
