Product details

This work for male voices uses the melody and words from the traditional Australian folksong Moreton Bay. The folksong is about life in the penal colony at Moreton Bay in Queensland where, under the tyrant Captain Patrick Logan, the prisoners suffered greatly for their petty crimes. Apart from being attracted to the general character of its melody, the narrative and drama associated with this folksong provided great potential for adaption to a choral work. The folk tune is used freely in this composition, varying and extending it throughout different textures that reflect the drama of the story. Passages of lilting accompaniment figures evoke the gentle waves of Moreton Bay, while rhythmically vibrant passages reflect the drama and hardships suffered by the prisoners.
