Product details
Mullet Run is a quirky tonally exploratory jazz piano trio piece in a medium tempo swing rhythm. The piano part and the double bass part have their own separate rhythmic, harmonic and melodic logics for most of the melody statement. The drums provide a supportive and interactive role. (N.B. it's best for the drummer to follow a piano part for this piece. This will help wuth the placement of accents and form markers.)
Towards the end of the melody there is a passage of rhythmic and harmonic unison that brings the sounds of all three instruments togther before and after the improvisation.
The improvisation is also free with repsct to tonality and rhythm. Players can take it in turns to feature solistically, or improvise as a group. After the improvisation there is a return to the melody to finish.
Published by: Australian Music Centre — 1 digital (PDF) facsimile score (5p. -- A4 (portrait))
Difficulty: Advanced — The piano part is through composed, includes many chordal passages, scored for both hands. The double bass part is a repeated walking bass ostinato nine bars in length with no discernable rhythmic or harmonic relationship to the piano melody.
