With the winds blowing across Geographe Bay, the three mast ship sails to the Port of Bunbury to bring what will be the beginning of the settlement of Bunbury. With a mixture of tradition from Europe and the splendour of the traditional land owners, the Noongar People.
The beginning of the future, that is, Bunbury.
At the docking of the three mast ship comes the birth of industry
in the newly formed township of Bunbury. You can hear the hustle
and bustle of people going about building new lives through the
development of wheat and potato growing and the forging of the
mining industry. The slashing of saws and the cracking of axes
can be heard as the timber is felled. 45,000 years of settlement
by the traditional land owners, the Noongar people, comes the
sound of the didgeridoo as it entwines with the sound of
brass.
The coming together of the two musical forms induces a currency
of harmonic sonority and the creation of a new musical
experience. The tradition of hymn tunes for brass band entrench
the community musical entity which is the Bunbury City Band.
With the coming of the new millennium comes the prosperity of
Bunbury through new industries such as tourism and viticulture,
but one tradition stays true and firm.
