This work is a medley of songs popular in Australia before 1900 (hence the title.) The unifying theme is Going Kangarooing by the goldfields entertainer Charles Thatcher (the Colonial Minstrel of the title.) The original version was for brass quartet; the F horn part was added later, as was an optional part for percussion (1 player).
