Product details
This piece is a slower rendition of the double jig No. 93 of O'Neill's collection than is commonly found. I hope the solo vocal line illustrates a sacred and liturgical basis of the jig. The parts may be ornamented freely. The piece was written for forthcoming concerts. I had duets in mind when composing the piece, with the following musicians in mind: Miriam Morris the viola a gamba virtuoso, Peter O' Shea the Golden Fiddle Award winner, and my wonderful mother Mary Knights-Rutten, cellist and pianist. These are examples of realisations: singer, piano and fiddle, singer and viola da gamba, or singer and fiddle and guitar, and so on.
The setting of the psalm was inspired by the Liber Usualis which I sing from and by my work as a regular cantor at St. Patrick's Cathedral from 1999-2006, particularly singing the psalms of Geoffrey Cox, the Director of Music at St. Patrick's Cathedral. In fact Geoffrey has a lovely setting of this psalm.
