Sheet Music: ScorePrecambrian : for cello duo / Anthony Lyons.by Anthony Lyons (2010)

Product details
The title and broad inspiration for the work are taken from the
name Precambrian which is a term that is sometimes used to
describe the period of Earth's history from the origin of the
planet until about 540 million years ago - a period that
represents nearly ninety percent of geological time. The oldest
known Precambrian rocks have been dated to about 3,800 million
years old, and the earliest living organisms date from the latter
part of the eon.
Although the work doesn't attempt to be strictly programmatic,
the name Precambrian did inspire a number of musical impressions,
textures, colours and contrasting energies that might be possible
with two cellos. The work is in five movements with frequent
shifts in register and contrasts between rhythmic and slower
sustained sounds. Textural, angular and dissonant at times, there
are calm and lyrical moments of repose in the music also.
