Product details

Remembrances Four is a song cycle for voice and piano, with texts by Australian and Turkish WW1 Gallipoli veterans, Charles Bingham, Bill de Saxe, Tom Usher, Mustafa Koha, Lionel Simpson and Adil Shahin, set to music by Diana Blom. Australian WWI historian, Harvey Broadbent, interviewed the veterans in the 1980s and their stories are woven into a book, The Boys who came home - recollections of Gallipoli (1990) for young adults, which traces the stages of the Gallipoli campaign. For the song cycle, excerpts of stories from both sides are drawn together to show different recollections. The cycle was written for Australian-Turkish soprano, Ayṣe Göknur Shanal, and first performed by her with Patrick Keith, piano, in April, 2015, to commemorate the Gallipoli centenary.
