Sheet Music: ScoreReverie, in shifting textures : for orchestra / Alex Turley.by Alex Turley (2025)

Product details
Originally commissioned by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in 2022, this piece began as 'Koala Song', a string orchestra lament for the 3.5 million hectares of eucalyptus forest destroyed during the 2019-20 bushfire season.
Since then, I have recomposed and reframed the piece in a new light, enough to warrant a new title. Reverie, in shifting textures is a contemplative unfolding, drifting smoothly through clouds of sound that slowly form and dissipate. It is custom fit for a dedicated recording session, tailored to take full advantage of the subtlety, shimmer, and expressive depth that the artistry of real musicians can bring, while giving each section of the ensemble a moment to shine.
Where other composers may look to extended techniques in search of colour, I'm more interested in using intricate divisi, stacking and mirroring to build atmospheres that feel fresh, yet somehow familiar. I'm searching for complexity without clutter. These approaches reflect the harmonic language, structures, and textures that define my voice as a composer and guide my ongoing exploration
