Sheet Music: ScoreScratches of the Wind : for alto flute solo / Nirmali Fennby Nirmali Fenn (2016)

Product details
The title of this piece comes from a line of Henri Michaux's Darkness Moves. There is a special insular quality that a person feels when they hear the presence of the wind on a window pane, while they themselves are inside - the soft scratchiness of the wind on the glass magnifies a person's own sense of interiority. This piece is magnifying the player's own mouth cavity, i.e. the interior body, with that of the instrument's internal cavity. Inhalation has a different sound to an exhalation; this piece uses the body of the flute to magnify this distinction.
