Sheet Music: ScoreSonata for Violin and Viola : From Far Above / Stuart Greenbaum.by Stuart Greenbaum (2018)

Product details
This Sonata for Violin and Viola was commissioned for Music Viva Australia by Dr Victor Wayne and Dr Karen Wayne OAM. It was written for Sophie Rowell and Christopher Moore as part of the Greenbaum Sonata Project, and the premiere performance was given by them on 24 September 2019 at Elizabeth Murdoch Hall, Melbourne Recital Centre. It is the 14th in a series of sonatas written in the new millennium.
Cast in three movements, the subtitle, From Far Above, refers to views of planet Earth from the International Space Station. At this height, many natural wonders of our continents, oceans, rivers and mountains are apparent. Also visible are signs of human activity. The faint yet straight lines of bridges tend to stand out against the uniform dark blue of water. As human technology has advanced, longer bridge spans became viable. In popular culture, crop circles are sometimes associated with the paranormal; but irrigated crop circles increasingly appearing in desert terrain create spectacular light and dark green pointillist patterns as seen from space. City lights around the globe map out the electric architecture of human civilization.
