As individuals we all have our own “forgotten dreams” – dreams of things we are going to achieve, places we are going to go, loves we pursued and loves we lost? I think though, that humanities’ greatest forgotten dream is that of “peace and harmony”. As the recent events in Paris and many places around the world show, this is a long forgotten dream that seems to always be just out of reach. Another much more uplifting inspiration for this piece was a wonderful documentary film by Werner Herzog that came out in 2010 called the “Cave of Forgotten Dreams”. In it, a small crew were given a rare chance to film inside France's Chauvet Cave, where the walls are covered with the world's oldest surviving paintings. To preserve the art, people are only allowed to enter the site for two weeks a year. The 30,000-year-old drawings, represents humanity's earliest dreams – forgotten for many centuries but still there!
This work uses a scordatura where the 4th and 5th strings are lowered one semitone:
From the 6th string, the tuning is as follows: - E, G#, C#, g, b, e
There is a performance part written as for guitar in normal tuning, the full score shows the actual pitch as well as the scordatura part.
This edition produced 21 Apr 18.
