Performance by Worcester Chorus, Chris Shepard from the CD Blakesongs
(this sample is of the SATB choir with piano version of this work)
Product details
Blakesongs comprises five songs for SATB choir based on selected poems of the mystical poet William Blake. Blake was a visionary and even today scholars debate the meaning of much of his work. These 5 songs are an attempt to delve into some of these mysteries and offer a new vision. The central theme is that of "innocence" and "wonder".
The first movement, Song of Innocence, was originally commissioned by Christopher Shepard for the combined Sydney Grammar/Ascham choirs. This was later expanded to four songs and then five. The premiere of movements four and five was in the Central Presbyterian Church New York 2004. The full cycle was first performed by the Worcester Chorus on June 3 2011 in the USA.
