Most of these songs were written while the composer was an undergraduate student at La Trobe University, Melbourne (1976-78). Each song explores a particular composition technique such as modal or extended harmony, rhythmic development, counterpoint or asymmetrical phrasing. The songs have individually been performed in various concerts.
