Product details
Spindrift refers to the spray blown from the cresting waves of the ocean. In Greek and Roman mythology, Leucothea is considered the goddess of spindrift. Marcel Proust uses Leucothea as a metaphor for the mist that covers a young man's eyes when gazing upon a beautiful woman, and the eyes of sailors in love have been said to have 'spindrift' (the 'white goddess') in them. The piece unfolds organically from the single opening motive representing the first gentle swell of the waves. The waves return throughout the piece, giving rise to sprays of floating melody.
