Product details

It had long been the composer's desire to create a commemorative work, in honour of the sacrifice of the service men and women of the Australian Armed Forces.

Sheridan's own family has a proud history of armed service. His grandfather fought in Europe in the Great War, in the First Forty Third. His father, served in the Royal Australian Air Force in Signals, during the Second World War, and subsequently went on to work for the Department of Defence for over thirty years.

The work was written with the specific intent that it could be played at solemn services, and commemorative events for service men and women. The piece, which is roughly divided into three sections, (slow, fast, slow), provides the listener, with the opportunity for silent reflection and quiet contemplation; the final section being a lyrical series of variations of the music of 'The Last Post'.

Published by: Australian Music Centre — 1 set of 4 performance parts (20p. -- A4 (portrait))

Difficulty: Advanced

First performance by Bogdan Kazimierczak, Anne-Mrie Meegan-Turner, Anna Webb, Jonathan Webb — 11 Nov 07. Concordia College Chapel, Highgate, South Australia.

Tonal and very accessible to a wide-range of audiences.

Ideally a performance should be prefaced by a reading of the poem 'The war veteran's prayer' by Geoff Kemp (Copyright Geoffrey Kemp 2001 from anthology Alfa at Midnight, Seaview Press, Henley Beach, 2001). At the conclusion of the Quartet (the Last Post), the Ode and Reveille may be delivered.

The work has had the honour of recieving two Vice- Regal Performances before the Governor of S.A., His Excellency, Rear Admiral, Kevin Scarce. Both of these high profile performances were given in order to raise funds for medical research for Veterans.

Typeset edition.
