Product details
The Australian flute player John Lemmone (1861-1949) is remebered as the friend, associate artist and sometime manager of Dame Nellie Melba. In their concerts together he would play flute obligatos from the operatic repertoire with Melba. He would also perform flute solos, some of which were his own compositions. He wrote around 15 flute solos, most with piano accompaniment. The Elves is typical of Lemonne's romantic, salon style based on a whimsical, programatic idea.
When I started Tucan Flute Quartet in 1992, I was looking for Australian music to play. There wasn't much around so I wrote some pieces and also arranged some. I particularly wanted to include a piece by Lemonne as he was such an ineresting figure in Australian flute playing history.
