Drawing on her own Lebanese heritage, Elizabeth Younan fuses three Middle Eastern dances with stylistic elements of the European Baroque: first an energetic and virtuosic Belly Dance, then a hypnotic and delicate Khaleegy with its long, sweeping motions of the hair and body, and finally a joyous Dabke circle dance - all performed on a quartet of Baroque recorder, Baroque viola, harpsichord and violone by exciting new Melbourne ensemble Croissants & Whiskey.
This is the first release in ABC Classic's 2022 Composer Commission series.
