Product details

First described by scientist Isaac Newton in the 1600s, the laws of motion are physical principles that govern the way objects move. The laws are the inspiration for this suite, which lasts a total of seven minutes in three movements. 'Equal and Opposite Reactions' reflects Newton's third law of motion: for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. 'Force = Mass × Acceleration' reflects Newton's second law of motion: the force of an object is equal to its mass multiplied by its acceleration. 'Unbalanced Forces' reflects Newton's first law of motion which states that a stationary object will remain at rest unless acted upon by an external force.

The Laws of Motion was composed for the Ku-Ring-Gai Philharmonic Orchstra as part of their 2020 Composer Development Program. It was awarded the Audience Choice Award at the 5th International Tampa Bay Symphony Orchestra Composition Prize. The Tampa Bay Symphony Orchestra premiered The Laws of Motion on the 10th of January, 2022 at the Palladium Theatre, St. Petersburg, Florida, USA.
