Product details

The M80 Ring Road was built for a variety of reasons including the integration of metropolitan Melbourne with middle and outer suburbs, and linking growth populations in the south-east. It was built throughout the 1990's and is a total of 38kms long.

During normal times the Ring Road is the subject of significant daily congestion. The first half of this piece focuses on this daily gridlock traffic on the Ring Road conveying the frenetic high energy and emotions of this daily experience.

This is contrasted with a more reflective harp solo section conjuring the image of a largely empty ring road during our 2020 lockdown.

Finally, the piece progresses to a night-time theme where without the gridlock traffic and people in a rush, the road has an element of freedom and there is time to appreciate its design. Thus, the night-time theme features a circular melody reflecting the shape of the road. The intensity increases once again as the sun starts to rise and the rush begins for another day.
