Product details
The Splendour of Lying Naked in the Sun is an ode to our ordinary bodies and the incredible universe we find ourselves living in. Premiered as a part of Divisi's Queer Love Songs, this song cycle pays homage to what queer spaces have taught me about self-love and self-acceptance, how being naked in a roomful of strangers can feel less exposed and alone than everyday life.
Shortlisted for the 2022 Paul Lowin Prize, the cycle explores spectralism and microtonality for a capella voices, searching for an alien yet beautiful soundworld rich in overtones and justly tuned harmonies. Divisi has done an excellent job in realising this vision and really inhabiting this soundworld of "lost" notes in between the keys of the piano.
The text for these songs come from Amercian author Salvatora Scibona's article for the New York Times' 2019 Summer series, The Splendors of Lying Naked in Sun, which was a mesmerising read and even more fun to set to music.
