Product details

This piece for solo harp was composed in 1983 and revised under the title Threaded stars 2 in 2006. It is limited to a single stream of notes - the piece is almost entirely monophonic (one note at a time). The stream of notes etches out a characteristic pattern: a cluster of notes which revolves around a central note; a kind of "star" pattern in which the central note exerts a gravitational pull on the surrounding notes. Leading from one "star" pattern to another are episodes with a strong sense of direction, or line. The line pulls the stream of notes upwards or downwards until encountering another star pattern.

There is also a constant change of pace: the impetus which propels the movement is constantly getting faster or getting slower.
