Sheet Music: Scorethree kinds of silence : for piano trio / Christine McCombe.by Christine McCombe (2013)

Product details
The initial idea for this work came after reading an essay by Thomas Clifton entitled 'The Poetics of Musical Silence' (Musical Quarterly, April 1976). I found Clifton's discussion of the different qualities of musical silence both enlightening and thought provoking. Silence is such an essential element of music but often discussion or analysis of music focuses on the 'notes' rather than the spaces between them. Musical silence affects how we experience time and space in music - and ultimately how we make sense of what we hear. This piece aims to explore three kinds of silence in music.
