Product details

This work was commissioned as part of a suite of piano pieces entitled:

"The Right Hand Does Not Know What the Left Hand is Doing"

It was co-composed between New York and Sydney, with the combined cultures of Japan and Australia imbued into the music.

With the two composers having had no interaction with one another apart from deciding the general premise of the works and sending the templates to each other, the music is surprisingly coherent and contains many passages of beauty

Published by: Australian Music Centre — 1 facsimile score (5p. -- A4 (portrait))

Difficulty: Medium — Each hand is very playable but there are some rhythmic complexities like syncopation and simple polyrythms

Duration: 4 min.

Contents note:

I. Movement I -- II. Movement II.

Commission info: Commissioned by Composers Concordance

First performance 24 Jan 20. Di Menna Centre, New York USA

Includes programme notes.

Movement 1 - Masatora Goya provided the template for this movement in 5/4 and the pitch material was set to five black keys with one white key (pentatonic with one outside note). Masatora wrote the right hand and Jessica the left hand.
Movement 2 - Jessica Wells provided the template for this movement with the pitch material set to all white keys with a black key included in every measure that was NOT in 4/4 meter. Jessica wrote the right hand and Masatora the left hand. Included twice in this movement is a repeated note rhythm reminiscent of the call of a Kookaburra.
