Vanitas Vanitatum was composed for the Melbourne University Composition Choir's first semester recital for 2002. It was first performed in the Ormond College Chapel, University of Melbourne on May 22nd 2002, conducted by Hildy Essex.
The text is a verse taken from John Webster's (c.1578 - c.1626) tragi-comedy, The Devil's Law Case (1617) or, When Women go to Law, the Devil is full of Business.
