Vodka meets a martini : for big band / Stuart Greenbaum
by Stuart Greenbaum (1999)
Vodka Meets a Martini is written with a laid-back, lounge feel over a slightly more complex 'classical' structure which repeats a 26-bar cycle five times.
This piece is written for standard big band with the addition of flute. It is possible for the baritone saxophone to double flute and a composite part is available. In any event, it is important to have a professional flautist so in most cases a separate player is preferable.
The 1st trumpet line also includes a flugel horn part, to be played by a separate player. The part for the drum kit is mostly notated. Some embellishments are to be encouraged but it is important that the drummer learns the written part first, as the feel is very specific.
The additional percussion part is also essential and not to be thought of as optional.
