Product details

Jeff Pressing's Zalankara is a multicultural symphony, a wide-ranging and ambitious work dedicated to the refugees and displaced people of the world.

Zalankara uses ground-breaking innovations in electronics, combining sounds and structures inspired by different ethnic musics and those drawn from Western traditions. The piece contains everything from sampled or synthesized sounds of African talking drums and the dan tranh or Vietnamese zither, to electronic versions of a Western orchestra.

There are also four vocalists - here performed live in the studio - plus assorted environmental sounds such as dolphin calls and closing doors!

Duration: 65 min.

Contents note:

Point of reference -- The great and the small -- Doors and portals -- The universal dance -- Sun and sky -- Exotica -- Mirrors and beams of light.

Liner notes include program note and song texts.
