Work Overview
Preludes is a musical setting of T.S. Eliot's four short poems by the same name for SATB choir. Each poem is a disdainful vignette and bitter microcosm of urban lifestyle and cityscapes, offering a glimpse into the modern world from Eliot's perspective through his imagist language.
Eliot's use of poetic form and techniques greatly influenced this work. Each poem's atmosphere led to four distinct movements in 'Preludes,' unified by musical techniques that equate with Eliot's use of fragmentation, sibilance, and subtle nuance of rhythm.
