Score

Library shelf no. 783.67525/BAN 1 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
It was a great privilege to be commissioned by Sally Walker to compose for her and Jenny Duck-Chong, and in searching for suitable texts, Psalms emerged as ideal vehicles for the combination of mezzo-soprano and flute. There are three Psalms in the set:
Ps. 137 (By the rivers of Babylon we sat down and wept) The setting begins with a lament played by the flute before the entry of the voice.
Ps. 62:1-4 (My soul finds rest in God alone) The mood lifts in this Psalm, in which the vocal part includes optional percussion.
Ps. 150 (Praise the Lord.) A virtuosic setting, with the flute imitating various instruments - timbrel, Haro and trumpet.
