Evie Dances : a cycle of three songs for voice and piano / music by Betty Beath ; words by Jenna Woodhouse.
Library shelf no. 783.66547/BEA 3 [Not for loan]
Work Overview
I was attracted to these texts by the poet, Jena Woodhouse, who
had written them for her grand-daughter, Evie. When I wrote these
songs I hoped to capture the simplicity of the text through
expressive phrasing and line. The piano accompaniment, as well as
providing support to the voice, is, in each of the three works,
an equal partner. A legato line is important for both
instruments, as is contrast in colour and tone. The three songs
are similar in style, tempos move leisurely and communication of
the text is, of course, important.
