Ceol Mor II : for solo bassoon / Charles Bodman Rae.
Library shelf no. 788.58/BOD 1 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
Ceol Mor II for solo bassoon is in the form of theme and variations, alternating with contrasting episodes. It shares its theme with Ceol Mor I, for violin, clarinet and piano, although the theme itself is treated differently, the variations are different, and the episodes are entirely different. 'Ceol Mor' is the Gaelic term for the 'great music', and usually refers to the austere yet hauntingly expressive Pibroch tradition of theme and variations, as played on the highland bagpipes. The Scottish references in both works honour the memory of my father.
