My favourite Australian art song repertoire

The AMC asked leading practitioners to select their favourite Australian art song repertoire, to provide delegates to the 2013 International Conference of Vocal Teachers (Brisbane 2013) with an introduction to this rich and diverse landscape.
There is an air of intimacy and fragility in these beautiful chamber music settings. I particularly love the interplay between the instruments and the voice, sometimes even sharing fragments of the melody between them, creating a real sense of the voice belonging to the ensemble, not standing alongside it. It is a joy to perform. The texts for this cycle come from haiku-like writings by anonymous Korean women expressing the pain, passion and sadness of their private thoughts about love. There are 5 songs, interspersed with two interludes for flute and cello.
