My favourite Australian art song repertoire
Posted by Australian Music Centre on 15 July, 2013
The AMC asked leading practitioners to select their favourite Australian art song repertoire, to provide delegates to the 2013 International Conference of Vocal Teachers (Brisbane 2013) with an introduction to this rich and diverse landscape.
This is just one of a collection which has a range of 9 notes and uses mainly crotchets (quarter) and quavers (eighth) notes throughout, making it particularly suitable for very young or early beginning singers. The syllabic treatment of Banjo Paterson’s text, except for one melismatic phrase, allows young singers the opportunity to gain confidence with the shorter phrase lengths. This song has been included in the list as one of the many written by Brumby for suitable young voice with many pedagogical applications.
